About the Cardiac Catheterization Lab
Good to know
In the Department of Cardiology, you’ll find six catheterization labs where you can examine and treat patients using diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the fields of electrophysiology and cardiology. The range of procedures extends from ablations and coronary interventions to heart valve procedures and the implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators. Operating hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In the cardiac catheterization lab, a team of approximately 40 nurses, surgical technicians, and medical assistants works in an interprofessional capacity alongside physicians.
Your Responsibilities in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab
As part of a great team
As a registered nurse (formerly known as a healthcare and nursing professional) or medical technician in the cardiac catheterization lab, you will prepare for and assist with diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures, as well as minimally invasive procedures such as TAVI and MitraClip. Your responsibilities include meticulous documentation as well as checking, adjusting, and calibrating the equipment. You organize and set up the work area to ensure optimal workflow. If resuscitation measures are necessary during a procedure, you will initiate them. In addition, you will regularly participate in on-call shifts and standby duty, which take place between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m., and 24 hours on weekends from 8 a.m. to 8 a.m.
Your Profile
What You'll Bring to the Table
You have completed training as a registered nurse, healthcare nurse, or medical assistant with experience in cardiology. Experience in the cardiac catheterization lab is preferred but not required. During an intensive onboarding program, we’ll tailor the training to your current level of expertise and assign you an experienced mentor. You’ll be a great fit for our team if you’re reliable and empathetic and treat our patients professionally and with care.
