Helping others is in your blood
For example, you identify pathogens, create blood counts or determine blood groups. With your work in the laboratory, you will make a significant contribution to the diagnosis of sick people and help us to find the right treatment. Possible areas of application are human genetics, pathology, molecular biology or research.

Application MTL training
You have at least a secondary school leaving certificate and good grades in science subjects. You are very interested in medicine, technology and natural sciences. Working closely with research would be right up your street. As would taking on responsibility and working in a team. Experience from an internship in a laboratory is a plus.

During the practical phases, you will put your knowledge into practice in the various areas of the university hospital. The practical training is not subject-based, but competence-oriented. Experienced colleagues are always at your side and will teach you how to independently master your future tasks in laboratory analysis, infection analysis or pathology.
You examine samples that are sent to the laboratory from different departments. Sometimes things have to be done quickly, for example during an ongoing operation. Also good to know: You work independently and therefore have a central role at the university hospital. That's why the term "assistant" was removed from the job title during a reform in 2023.
Advances in medicine and biotechnology are constantly opening up new areas of application for you as an MTL and opening up great career prospects. For example, you can work in clinics, in laboratory groups or in industry. Of course, we would be most pleased if you stayed at the university hospital: If you successfully complete your training with us, you have a very good chance of being taken on.
