Nursing care is becoming more complex as people get older and medicine continues to develop. With your nursing degree, you will be perfectly equipped for this and can implement new findings directly on our wards. Examples of tasks include evaluating studies, drawing up treatment plans and conducting training courses.

Application for the dual study program in nursing

You have a high school diploma or a comparable qualification and very good German language skills (C1). You approach people openly, act in a structured and independent manner, take responsibility and remain calm in stressful situations. Experience in nursing, for example through an internship or a voluntary social year, is a plus.

And after your bachelor's degree? Start your master's program! The "Master of Science in Advanced Nursing Practice" program has been offered at the Faculty of Medicine in Cologne since 2025.

During your studies, you will deal with the basics of nursing science and exciting case analyses. You will also have many opportunities to develop your soft skills - be it in communication, moderation, presentation or foreign languages. You can also exchange ideas on political or cultural topics.

Your practical assignments will take place in various inpatient and outpatient areas of Cologne University Hospital. You will get to know various specialist areas and wards and gain experience with our partners, for example home care services.

After three years, you will complete your training with the qualification "Nursing Specialist". After a further year, you will obtain a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Nursing. And after that? You can go on to qualify for a doctorate if you wish.

You will mainly work in direct patient care, but you will also have exciting tasks in the design and management of healthcare. Here at the University Hospital, we offer you many career stages under one roof and the opportunity to develop your career in a way that suits you and your life.
